Hell

Hell Versions
Final Fantasy II

Hell (εœ°η„ [jigoku] or 'hell' in Japanese) is a rare-appearing dimension of the dead in Final Fantasies.

Final Fantasy II

The hell in Final Fantasy II is a traditional hell, complete with Pandemonium, the castle of the ruler of hell. The original ruler isn't displayed in the game, but is likely Satan. Various other fallen angels can be found within the castle. It is most definitely a real place, and can be accessed via the Jade Passage in the game after it partially fuses into the human world.

Final Fantasy XIV

The hell in Final Fantasy XIV is known as the Seven Hells (七獄 [nanagoku] or 'seven hells' in Japanese), each bearing one element save the last of them. The residents of the hell of Ice, for example, are tormented by ice in its various forms. The Seven Hells are inextricably involved in the myth of the Twelve, and as such there is no confirmation if the Hells are actually a real place or whether it's all in the imagination of Eorzeans. According to a playwright from the Sixth Astral Era1 , each hell corresponds to evil deeds and any judged into the hells must first suffer an eternity in that hell, and then journey upwards through the hells into the seventh where his heart will be weighed. Anyone deemed worthy is sent forward to the heavens, while those deemed unworthy will suffer in the seventh (and uppermost) hell for the rest of all time.
