Overview

The Soot Creek (スートクリーク [soot creek] in Japanese) is a small river that runs through Black Brush in central Thanalan. It is unknown where it starts and where it ends, and it appears that much of its journey it does underground. The upper parts of the visible creek start in a cave complex in the north-east of Black Brush, from where it briefly surfaces to flow over the Royal Allagan Sunway. From there it enters a crevice in a cliff face before surfacing again to the south at the border of Black Brush and Spineless Basin, pooling around the base of Fesca's Watch. From there it takes a sharp turn west. The lower stream flows under the Royal Allagan Starway, and forms a waterfall at the edge of the deep gorge of the Sil'dih Excavation Site. At the bottom of the gorge it disappears underground again, but due to its location it is very possible it is connected to the ancient Sil'dih aqueducts dug underground in the vicinity of the city.

Note that Soot Creek wasn't visible in version 1.x. It is unknown if this is a retcon or if the geological sifting around the city of Ul'dah during the Calamity surfaced it. If it is indeed connected to the Sil'dih aqueducts, it was connected in pre-Calamity times to the Copperbell Mines in western Thanalan. It is possible that the water areas in the mines are in fact the waters of Soot Creek even in the present day.
