Dirge of Cerberus Version Differences

This page handles the differences between the various versions of the game Dirge of Cerberus. In particular, the Japanese and English releases were greatly different.

Japanese Version

This is the original version of the game. It included the multiplayer mode (available only if you had a PS2 HDD and online capabilities) that connected through the Playonline service through which all other Square Enix multiplayer games functioned, and had you play as a Deepground soldier. Other than that, the game had Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties.

English Version

The modified English version saw its release without the multiplayer feature, but with 40 added unlockable bonus missions that weren't available in the JP version. The game also removed the Easy difficulty and added an Extra Hard one.

As for combat changes, the EN version added double jumping capability, ability to shoot while jumping/in mid-air, exchanged Dodge Roll with Dash, and changed display of gun-wielding mode from right over the shoulder to a bit farther back, enabling a better view of the field. It also changed Limit Break from requiring MP to requiring a Limit Breaker item to use.

Additionally, numerous item adjustments were made, going so far as to remove some items and add others in. These changes are listed below. Note that the Difference column in the changes chart counts how many points are lost or gained in the EN version compared to the JP version.
