Sapsa Spawning Grounds

Overview

Sapsa Spawning Grounds (サプサ産卵地 [sapsa sanranchi] or 'sapsa spawning grounds' in Japanese) is a landbase grown in western La Noscea in Final Fantasy XIV by sahagin in the aftermath of the Calamity when their spawning grounds elsewhere were washed away. When they arrived in the aftermath of a great tidal wave caused by Leviathan1 , they completely changed the area's ecosystems to better fit their needs. Now, five years and more after the fact, the verdant greenery original to the area is gone, replaced by aquatic plants favored by the sahagin.

Before the sahagins' arrival, the area was known as Bald Knoll (バルドノール [bald knoll] in Japanese) and wasn't particularly distinguishable from the rest of La Noscea. It took up all the space to the west of Skull Valley and north of the Isles of Umbra. A retcon nearby also renamed the southern half of Bald Knoll into Halfstone for version 2.0, according to the name of the settlement that stood there in version 1.x.

Aside from the local aetheryte camp and Halfstone, Bald Knoll featured numerous caves, among them the Mistbeard Cove (presently part of the Sastasha cave complex), and tunnels leading south to the Isles of Umbra that presumably collapsed in the Calamity, or at least otherwise became inaccessible. There were also several sandy beaches ideal for all manner of sea-side creatures to flourish.

Locations

Reaver Hide

The Reaver Hide (船隠しの港 [funekakushi no minato] or 'boat-hiding port' in Japanese) is just what the Japanese name says - a place for the Serpent Reavers to hide their ships while not out at sea.

The Reef of Sending

The Reef of Sending (海還りの墓碑 [umigaeri no bohi] or 'tombstone of returning to the sea' in Japanese) is a place where sahagin who died on dry land are sent to the sea for burial2 . The exact course of these proceedings is unknown.
