Jobs in FFI

This page remains incomplete.

Final Fantasy I features a basic job system with six different jobs, each upgradeable to an advanced form. You need to do a separate quest for the advanced jobs.

Basic Jobs

These six jobs are available in the beginning of the game. You can choose freely from them to form a party of four, and any combination of these is possible.
One of the standard parties is Warrior/Thief/White Mage/Black Mage. It is the default party suggested for you in the character creation screen.

Black Mage

The Black Mage's primary function is to cast Black magic. They are fragile and don't have too many HP, and neither does their physical attack strength shine. Their only redeeming function is their spell-casting. They can equip staffs and knives.
Black Mage becomes a Black Wizard when upgraded.

Starting Stats
HP 25, MP 10, ATK 3/INT 20, DEF 1, EVA 56, AGI 5
ACC 23, STA 2, LCK 10
Equip: Knife, Clothes
Magic: Able to use lv 1 magic

Monk

The Monk is a martial artist, and relies heavily on his bare fists to do damage. Equipping weapons can actually hinder this, although he is capable of equipping nunchakus and claws. Their defense is not too great, however.
Monk becomes a Master when upgraded.

Starting Stats
HP 33, MP 0, ATK 13/INT 1, DEF 3, EVA 53, AGI 5
ACC 13, STA 10, LCK 5
Equip: Staff, Clothes

Red Mage

The Red Mage is capable of using both Black and White magic, although they still have only the same three magic slots every other job gets. They are also quite good sword users in the beginning of the game, although not quite so efficient anymore towards the end of it.
Red Mage becomes a Red Wizard when upgraded.

Starting Stats
HP 30, MP 10, ATK 5/INT 10, DEF 1, EVA 61, AGI 10
ACC 32, STA 5, LCK 5
Equip: Knife, Clothes

Thief

Agile and lucky, Thieves don't have too much else to speak for them. Their physical attack is quite bearable though, and Thieves were a lifeline in earlier versions of the game when the party relied heavily on them to make their escape from an unfavorable battle.
Thief becomes a Ninja when upgraded.

Starting Stats
HP 30, MP 0, ATK 7/INT 1, DEF 1, EVA 71, AGI 15
ACC 40, STA 5, LCK 15
Equip: Knife, Clothes

Warrior

Warriors are good attackers, and are capable of wearing heavy armor that boosts their defense far higher than the other jobs. They are not too quick.
Warrior becomes a Knight when upgraded.

Starting Stats
HP 35, MP 0, ATK 10/INT 1, DEF 1, EVA 59, AGI 8
ACC 28, STA 15, LCK 8
Equip: Knife, Clothes

White Mage

The White Mage is the party's healer and enhancer. Their attack and defensive stats are low, and they can equip staffs and hammers.
White Mage becomes a White Wizard when upgraded.

Starting Stats
HP 33, MP 10, ATK 8/INT 15, DEF 1, EVA 56, AGI 5
ACC 10, STA 8, LCK 5
Equip: Staff, Clothes
Magic: Able to use lv 1 magic

Advanced Jobs

To upgrade your jobs, you need to do a separate quest aside from the main story. It is started by speaking to the dragon king Bahamut at the Dragon Isles, located far to the north of Mt Duergar.
Bahamut requires you to go to the Citadel of Trials and bring back proof of your courage. Should you do this, he will upgrade your jobs.
