Disappearing Moogles

Louisoix: Greetings to you, <Player>. Yours is ever a welcome presence.
You come at a most opportune time. A great deal has transpired since our last meeting, and I have much to relay to you. Seedseer A-Ruhn-Senna graced me with a visit but recently, you see, and brought with him a rather distinguished guest.
Having spent some time among us, I trust that you have learned a little of the moogles. Aye, the winged creatures abiding in the Twelveswood who have been friends to the Gridanians ever since the nation's birth.
Well, the guest of whom I speak was no less a personage than the moogle chieftain himself. He came seeking my counsel regarding a string of disquieting incidents that have occured in the wake of the outbreak of woodsin at Toto-Rak.
Moogles have been disappearing, <Player>. For reasons known only to themselves, many have wandered into the depths of th wood of late, never to return. We have no inkling as to who or what might be responsible, save for an ensorcelled ward that has inexplicably manifested in close proximity to the area where several of the missing were last seen.
Our investigations have revealed that the ward contains a presence - that of a moogle, to be precise. Alas, that is all we have been able to discern. The ward's potency is such that we can set nary a foot within its sphere of protection.
All attempts to penetrate the ward thus far have been to no avail…but I believe I have discovered a way. We must needs harness the power of enchanted keystones, five all told, that can be found deep within the Twelveswood.
Keystones are objects used by the moogles in the raising of wards. Given their strategic importance, it is common practice to place a guardian over each. The keystones we seek ar no different - each is defended by a dread beast.
Now, the moogle chieftain attempted to prevail upon the guardians to relinquish the keystones, but the ancient magic that binds them to their duty could not be undone. And so we have no recourse but to claim the keystones by force…and this is where your aid is requird, <Player>.
Together with the elementals, the moogles protect the sanctity of the Twelveswood. If these unexplained disappearances are permitted to continue, all of Eorzea will suffer the consequences.
Perchance you are reluctant to harm a creatre of the forest? Rest reassured that the elementals themselves recognize the graveness of our plight. They have granted us permission to put down the five guardian beasts, and you may undertake the task at no cost to your conscience.
All five creatures can be found in the vicinity of Turning Leaf, on the southwestern edge of the Twelveswood. The moogle chieftain has kindly furnished me with their identities, which I shall now relay to you.
Queen Gougou, who watches over the keystone of the bloom.
Buata, keeper of the keystone of the bud.
Capricious Cassie, guardian of the keystone of the bough…
Spiteful, who guards the keystone of the leaf.
And last but not least, Great Oak, protector of the keystone of the trunk.
Upon obtaining all five enchanted keystones, you are to deliver them to the moogle Pukwa Pika, who awaits your coming south of Turning Leaf.
What say you, then, <Player>? Will you aid the moogles in their plight and restore order to the Twelveswood?
(quest accept)
Louisoix: I had expected no other answer. No man could wish for a more dependable ally.
Now, the Lord of the Inferno may count among your many conquests, but I feel compelled to give you a word of warning, nonetheless. 'Twas not without good reason that your five foes were chosen as guardians.
You would also do well to tread warily when treants are about. For reasons yet beyond our fathoming, these guardians of the Twelveswood have become less forgiving of man's presence of late. I recommend you assemble a group of eight for the task to ensure naught is left to chance.

Louiosix: All five creatures can be found in the vicinity of Turning Leaf, on the southwestern edge of the Twelveswood. In the hopes that you will spare the lives of the region's other bestial residents where possible, I shall relay their names to you once more.
Queen Gougou, who watches over the keystone of the bloom.
Buata, keeper of the keystone of the bud.
Capricious Cassie, guardian of the keystone of the bough…
Spiteful who guards the keystone of the leaf.
And last but not least, Great Oak, protector of the keystone of the trunk.

Aiding the Moogles

(Turning Leaf, after obtaining keystones)
Pukwa Pika: K-Kupo! Are those…? Could they truly be…? Are they really…keystones?
They are! Then you must be the adventurer called <Full Name>, kupo! Yes, I've heard many and more things about you from old Louisoix! Nice things, of course! On behalf of mooglekind, thank you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, kupo!
With the keystones, I can temporarily nullify the magic that sustains the ward. And then it's a simple matter of stepping through to the area beyond and single-handedly finding and rescuing my countless missing kinsmoogles, kupo.
…Well, mustn't dally, I suppose. My friends depending on me, after all. Unimaginable horrors lie in wait, I shouldn't doubt, ready to turn hapless yours truly into a heap of quivering fur and gristle. But we do what we must, don't we, kupo? This is my lot in life, and I shall take it on the chin - such as it is - like a moogle. It's been a pleasure knowing you, <Player>, brief though our meeting was. Brief…like life.
(Will you say something? …)
(Just you leave it to me, kupo!)
Pukwa Pika: Kupopo!? You're offering to go in my stead!?
You're every ilm the brave and benevolent, courageous and compassionate adventurer Louisoix painted in his tales!
But do proceed with caution, kupo. I sense tremendous power emanating from within the ward - a power nigh impossible to gauge. You'll want to assemble a party of your most trusted companions, kupo.
You can leave the nullifying of the ward to me, kupo! Just say the word, and the deed will be done quicker than you can say 'my little chocobo'!

Pukwa Pika: Kupopo! Are you ready to step through the ward? Really? Truly? Verily?

Against the King

(Thornmarch)
(a Garlean juggernaut is seen in the gloom. A moogle flies around it)
Whiskerwall Kupdi Koop: Have at it, kupo! Show no quarter!
(you see other moogles on the juggernaut)
Pukla Puki the Pomburner: H-Hey, waaait! Don't leave me behind, kupooo!
(the moogles take down the juggernaut)
Ruffletuft Kupta Kapa: Bwahaha! It's done for!
A pathetic excuse for a war machine that was!
(the juggernaut explodes down below)
Pukla Puki the Pomburner: Oh, deary me.
(while randomly flying around, the moogles notice the adventurers arriving at the Thornmarch)
Ruffletuft Kupta Kapa: Kupo!? Who in the seven hells are they!?
Woolywart Kupqu Kogi: Meddling adventurers, I'd wager!
Whiskerwall Kupdi Koop: We may be furry and adorable, but be warned that looks can deceive, kupo!
Be afraid, adventurers! Be very afraid!
For by the time we've finished with you, you'll be fit for fertilizing the Twelveswood and little else, kupo!

(Thornmarch instance after defeating the moogles)
Fretful Moogle: I say, y-you there! You're <Player>, yes? P-Pukwa Pika blackmai- er…bade me come and get you. It's d-dangerous to linger - do let's quit this place without d-d-delay,kupo!

Reporting In

(Turning Leaf)
Pukwa Pika: Kupopo! I'm so relieved to see you back in one piece! The ward was growing unstable, and I was beginning to wrry, kupo!
What in the heavens happened in there? Are my kinsmoogles ssafe and sound? Tell me everything, kupo! Everything!
Kupopo!? In their corrupted state, they summoned forth Good King Moggle Mog XII, the moogle monarch of myth!? H-Heavens forend, kupo!
This is a right royal catastrophe! Word must be taken to the chieftain and A-Ruhn at once! As for you, <Player>, you must hasten back to Gridania and tell old Louisoix everything that has transpired! Well, what are you waiting for? Run, damn you! Run like the wind, kupooo!

Pukwa Pika: That moogles would conceive of something so utterly unconsionable as summoning forth Good King Moggle Mog XII - may his mighty soul rest in peace… Oh, this is a right royal catastrophe, kupo!
Word must be taken to the chieftain and A-Ruhn at once! As for you, <Player>, you must hasten back to Gridania and tell old Louisoix everything that has transpired! Well, what are you waiting for? Run, damn you! Run like the wind, kupooo!

(Apkallus Falls, Gridania)
Louisoix: My spirit soars to see you safely returned! Word had arrived of your entering the ward, and I have since awaited further tidings in a state of some anxiety. but come, relay to me all that you saw.
That they summoend forth their legendary king as they would a primal, and seemingly upon a whim…
I daresay there is much more to the moogles than meets the eye. 'Tis humbling for we of Sharlayan to admit, but there are many mysteries still that elude our comprehension.
Putting aside the vagaries of Sharlayan self-worth, I am gravely concerned for the moogles' welfare. Seedseer A-Ruhn-Senna has stressed this many a time, but the Garleans are unlike to turn a blind eye to the summoning of a primal.
Moreover, as was the case with Ifrit, remaining in our dimension requires that Good King Moggle Mog XII devour copious amounts of aetheric energy. This time, I fear 'tis a two-headed beast we face.
It seems we must rely upon your unique talents for yet another spell, <Player>. The primal must be vanquished, that the power of the crystals might be allowed to nourish the land.
Should we succeed in putting Eorzea to rights, I am confident that those unfortunate moogles tainted by the ward will regain their senses.
Permit yourself a moment's respite, <Player>, and return hither when you are fresh of body and mind. The fate of Eorzea and her denizens rests upon your shoulders.

Taking Up the Task

Louisoix: Welcome back,<Player>. In returning hither, I take it you have resolved to quell the fury of Good King Moggle Mog, the Twelfth of His Name, and restore order to the Twelveswood.
As you will recall, the primal lies hid within the bounds of the ward. To arrange an encounter, you must needs obtain the five keystones by putting donw their respective guardians.
Spiteful who guards the keystone of the leaf.
And last but not least, Great Oak, protector of the keystone of the trunk.
Upon obtaining all five enchanted keystones, you are to deliver them to the moogle Pukwa Pika, who awaits your coming south of Turning Leaf.
In the event that the five guardians prove difficult to overcome, you might consider availing yourself of unmarked keystones, which can be obtained from the ordinary fauna of Turning Leaf. Two of them can be used to create one enchanted keystone.
How came I upon this alternate method, you ask? Suffice it to say I was able to gleane the knowledge from my observations of your first journey into the ward. Our friend Pukwa Pika will be able to tell you more.

Gathering Keystones

(Turning Leaf)
Pukwa Pika: Ah, the brave and benevolent adventurer is back, kupo! I've already received word from old Louisoix that you mean to once more confront Good Kign Moggle Mog XII - may his glorious name live forever.
As you already know, five enchanted keystones are required to nullify the ward, kupo. And as ill luck would have it, each happens to be in the keeping of a dread beast.
Ah, but worry no more, kupo, for we've discovered a safer way to acquire what we need! There exist unmarked keystones, you see, which can be won from less intimidating inhabitants of this neck of the Twelveswood. For every two of these, I can create a single enchanted keystone, be it of the blossom, bud, or whatever.
Now, seeing as you have <#> enchanted keystones at the moment, you'll need to bring me <#> of the unmarked variety, kupo.
So, do you have any unmarked keystones you'd like transformed?
(Jand over the unmarked keystones? Yes)
Pukwa pika: Excellent! These will serve perfectly, kupo! Now, if you could wait but a moment…
The deed is done! Now you can step thorugh the ward at will, kupo!
…Now, if I might be permitted a moment's ponderation, that Louisoix is truly something else. It's no ordinary mortal who can unravel the workings of ancient moogle magick, and with nary more than a glance, kupo.

Pukwa Pika: Hello again, adventurer! I've already received word form old Louisoix that you mean to do battle with Good King Moggle Mog XII - may his gloriuos name live forever. Just say the word and I'll nullify the ward!

Defeated King

(Thornmarch upon win)
Fretful Moogle: (text missing)

(Turning Leaf)
Pukwa Pika: Welcome back! It's a relief to see you in one piece. My moogle sense tells me the ward has weakened ever so slightly, and it's all thanks to your efforts, kupo!
Now then, I will take word of your success to the chietain and A-Ruhn. In the meantime, you should make your way back to Gridania and report to old Louisoix.

(Apkallus Falls, Gridania)
Louisoix: <Player>! Once more you have dived into the jaws of peril, and once more you have emerged triumphant! I am beginning to believe the gods have plans for you, my friend.
Your latest victory over Good King Moggle Mog XII has been to the land's great benefit. Yet much remains to be done before balance may be fully restored. For the sake of Eorzea and her denizens, I pray that you will ever stand fast with us.
