Kirin

Kirin (キリン or 麒麟 [kirin] in Japanese) is an Esper that gives the Regen status. The summon has appeared very rarely in Final Fantasies, with its first appearance in Final Fantasy VI, and then not again until Tactics Advance and its sequel.
For another representation of Kirin, see Kirin.

The Kirin, or Qilin, is a mystical creature found in Asian mythology, particularly Chinese. It is usually depicted as something of a cross between a deer and a dragon, with horns or antlers - and very commonly only one - and sprouting fire all over its body. Despite its fearsome appearance, it is a symbol of purity and good fortune; it only appears in the presence of the wise and benevolent, and punishes the wicked while protecting the innocent. The Kirin's appearance in history - or "appearance", at least - is often taken as an omen of a good ruler. Aside from bringing fortune, it is, in various stories, also said to bring wealth and power to those who beseech its help. Due to its sometimes-single horn and its general symbolism, the Kirin is sometimes westernized as a unicorn.
