Summerford

Overview

Summerford (サマーフォード [summerford] in Japanese) forms the central area of middle La Noscea in Final Fantasy XIV. It used to be the heart of the Bearded Rock area (and considered part of lower La Noscea), but after the Calamity changed the soil into prime farmland, it was renamed as Summerford, after the crossings one must build every spring to get across the swelling Rogue River. The eponymous Summerford Farms is located in the area, tending to their abundant orange groves. The local aetheryte was moved there since Camp Bearded Rock was no longer functional anyway.

Summerford is hemmed in by Nym River to the north-west and the Rogue River to the south-east, with the Three-malm Bend and Zephyr Drift beyond the two rivers. Both of them were part of Bearded Rock before the Calamity. In addition, the Agelyss River flows right through the middle of the area. To the west is the Galadion Bay within which the city of Limsa Lominsa lies, and to the east is cliff-filled wilderness.

Locations

The Cookpot

The Cookpot (クックポット [cookpot] in Japanese) is a roughly circular area walled in by tall stone formations. It is unknown how it was formed, but presently is known to be home to a herd of aurochs.

Seasong Grotto

The Seasong Grotto (シーソング石窟 [seasong sekkutsu] or 'seasong grotto' in Japanese) is a small cave in central Summerford. In an unknown time in history, someone erected a monument within (known as 慰霊碑 [ireihi] or 'cenotaph' in Japanese), and carved on it the Sailor's Requiem. Some sailors still come here before their journeys on sea to pray for safe homecoming.

Summerford Farms

The Summerford Farms (サマーフォード庄 [summerford shou] or 'summerford manor' in Japanese) is a recently established farm that mainly produces oranges. When the Calamity wrecked much of the city's pirate ships, many pirates turned to farming instead to secure their futures. Summerford Farms, in particular, was established as part of Admiral Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn's decree to clear land for Lominsan living.

Tiller's Rest

Tiller's Rest (開拓者の納屋 [kaitakusha no naya] or 'settlers' outhouse' in Japanese) is a small outhouse presumably used by farmers as a place to rest, as per the name.
